We held a blind tasting of Sauvignon Blanc today. Entries were a LaCzar 2008 Berlin Vinyard; a Kunde 2010; a Clos du Bois 2010; and a Millet Freres Sancerre from the only Sancerre grower in Burgundy. The Sancerre won.

Welcome back to Jim Likes, whose keepers let him out again, and to Richard Phillips, who paid us his first (of many) visits. It was good to see both of them.

We received a thank you note from Rady Children’s Hospital for our donation of 2,000 stuffed animals. It’s rewarding to see our community service has made a difference, so thank you to Rady’s for giving us the opportunity to be of service.

Our scheduled speaker was indisposed, so Marty, the brewmaster at Rock Bottom, filled in. The restaurant just won a gold medal for its Longboard Brown English brown ale at the recent Craft Brewers Conference held this year at the Town and Country here in San Diego. The ale was delicious!

Jay Cogan has been proposed for membership in the Neuroscience Research category.

Finally, it is with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Jim Roche this week. Jim was a gentleman, a dedicated family man, and a true Rotarian. We will miss him tremendously. Rest in peace, Jim.
