The Pitch, April 25, 2012
We indulged ourselves with a 2006 Gundlach Bundschu Pinot blend from Sonoma, a very nice Seven Mountains “Whipporwill White” from Pennsylvania, a 2010 Irony Monterey Pinot Noir, and a 2011 Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. A good time was had by all.
Next week, we begin our “Power Hour” schedule. The actual meeting runs from 12:00 to 1. The shortened, compact schedule will accommodate working members and guests who cannot take an hour and a half or more for lunch. The speaker will begin promptly at 12:30, and the formal part of the meeting will be over by 1:00. Wines will be opened at 11:30 to inaugurate a social half-hour. Those who arrive early will have first tastes of the better bottles. If you want a salad or some other off-menu item, please arrive early so we can give the kitchen enough time to prepare your meal.
Rotarians-at-Work day is Saturday, April 28. It will begin at 7:30 with breakfast at Hob Nob Hill (First at Juniper) at 7:30 and move from there to Balboa Park, where trees are waiting to be transplanted by the caring hands of Torrey Pines Rotarians.
Our speaker was Ashley Colburn, who shared stories about and clips of producing her television travel series, “Wonders of Croatia.” He next series, “Wonders of Croatia” is in the can and ready to be broadcast. Ashley is an example of Rotary’s reach. She was a 4-Way Test Speech contestant and a RYLA attendee.
Apparently, the pitcher has not been throwing strikes. The last few issues are available on the Club Runner site, but they have disappeared between the mound and the plate. I’ll try to make a pitching adjustment before I get sent down to Triple-A.
