Wheel You Help?

Our club spokesman Bill Irwin is going to ride his bike from San Diego, CA to Jacksonville, FL in March and April 2010 to raise funds for the Torrey Pines (La Jolla) Rotary Club Foundation, along with a good friend, Ed Ott. Bill will dip his rear wheel in the Pacific Ocean on March 8 and 42 days later (or so) dip his front wheel in the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville, Florida. The total distance will be 2,468 miles (or so). Supporting them will be a vehicle driven by three other pals, taking turns at the wheel.

His goal is to raise $24,680 ($10.00/mile) or more for our Rotary Club Foundation that supports local and international worthwhile causes, like Polio eradication worldwide, or local schools like Nativity Prep. The funds raised will not be used to pay for the trip expenses, Bill is just happy to ride. Helping Rotary is a bonus.

If you can help, please donate a flat amount or an amount per mile (1 cent is $24.68).

With your support:

  • You will get a receipt for tax purposes - the donation is 100% deductible;
  • You can follow the trek online on this page, and will be notified by email when new information is published;
  • You will receive the end-of-ride newsletter;
  • If you pledge 10 cents/mile or more, you will be our guest at a post-ride dinner party on May 7, 2010. Since we are the only Wine Club in the Rotary District, you can expect a top notch gathering...
