Tim Chelling Executive Director Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial Biography Tim Chelling is the Executive Director of the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. His career includes military, media, government and non-profit leadership roles. Tim attended the University of Notre Dame and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He is a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation among other awards. Following his Air Force service, he settled in San Diego and shortly thereafter was appointed Deputy Press Secretary for the Mayor of San Diego. While in the Mayor’s office, he was recruited by NBC-TV and was then named Editorial Director for NBC San Diego. During his time with NBC, he was awarded 13 Emmys and numerous additional awards for journalism, documentaries and editorial commentary. His non-profit career includes leadership as the Vice President of a national policy group and as Executive Director of the Sharp Hospital Foundation in Coronado. In addition to his role as Director of Mt. Soledad, he also serves as a consultant with non-profit organizations with a focus on military and veteran non-profit groups.
