We warmed up with a Rodney Strong 2010 “Northern Sonoma” Sauvignon Blanc, a 2009 Chateau de Seguin Bordeaux, a 2009 Bogle Old Vines “California” Zinfandel, and an Alamos 2011 Mendoza Malbec. Thanks to Bill Irwin for being the dealer du jour.
Jim Likes is recovering well from back surgery. We are all looking forward to his return in a couple weeks. We can expect a massive infusion of new fines and happy dollars when Jim catches up on the all the gone-but-not-forgotten opportunities he missed while he was gone.
Unfortunately, Jim Roach is experiencing new health challenges and has to resigning from the club. He is a long-time Rotarian who has inspired us for years and meant so much to the club. We wish him a successful recovery and anticipate seeing him, even if only as a guest, when he gets back on his feet. Meanwhile, feel encouraged to contact him, say hello, and wish him well.
Tom Fisher’s Demotion Dinner will be held at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, June 27 at the Rock Bottom. This will allow us to show our appreciation to Rock Bottom for all they continue to do for us at the same time as we ceremoniously kick Tom out of office. Hurry! You must let Gordon know you are either coming to or boycotting the roast by June 19. Tempus fugit.
Our speaker was John Barreño, a participant in San Diego history for approximately 90 years. John attended high school with San Diego legend Art Linkletter and played baseball with Ted Williams and went on to earn a BA, an MA, and a Ph.D. beginning at the age of 43. John shared first-hand memories of San Diego’s high and low points for the better part of the 20th Century.
